Black gold is an overlay process call rhodium. The rhodium is applied to your engagement ring to give it a black look. You don't want to excessively wash your hands, no acids or chemicals "household cleaners included" should not be exposed to it, etc. If you take care of the ring it will always look great and brand new as the day you took it out of the box.
